Job Description
 
Job Summary:
To guide the garage team to ensure proper maintenance and monitoring of fleet at all times - trucks, tractors and trailers and follow all safety laws.
Roles and Responsibilities:
• To ensure and maintain the proper functioning of all vehicles in the fleet and ensure the proper maintenance of all vehicles.
• Work with the Operations Manager on annual budget for garage
• Oversee and monitor the mechanics in their daily routines and workload.
• Responsible for hiring, coaching and counselling (verbal and formal) on poor performance and conducting performance reviews annually.
• Visit vendors to select and purchase trucks, tractors and trailers. Liaise with all vendors on an ongoing basis with respect to parts and services as supplied by them.
• To ensure all vehicles conform to the safety laws set out by the government and company standards.
• To make roadworthy all new and used trailers and pups brought into the system, and to ensure these vehicles are entered into the system and are equipped with the necessary equipment.
• To ensure that information such as copies of old registrations, new registrations, sales contracts and safety inspections is submitted to accounts payable so that the fleet files can be kept current.
• Maintain up to date listing (inventory control) on all vehicles – trucks, tractors and trailers
• To update all equipment and tools inventory lists perpetually and ensure all tools are accounted for.
• To utilize the fleet software program to manage all aspects of parts, labor and the fleet.
• To properly equip and maintain all alarm systems on company vehicles.
• To ensure the proper maintenance and control of all inventory in the garage.
• To ensure all damaged trucks, tractors and trailers are taken out of service.
• Work with the President and Maintenance Manager for the selection of and purchase of parts, trucks, tractors and trailers, supplies for garage, vehicle plates and annual stickers.
• Ensure all parts are delivered on time or make applicable arrangements to ensure timely delivery
• Ensure all equipment maintenance is performed per regulation. e. Emissions testing and licensing
• Ensure annual safety inspections are performed when required, as well as A and B checks. Follow up on repairs as necessary.
• To ensure the operations manager and owner are apprised of any and all unusual circumstances that could negatively impact the operation of the fleet.
Qualifications:
• 3-5 Year of previous experience as a Shop foreman/Manager is required
• Must be a licensed mechanic, 310T preferred
• Must have experience working as a truck mechanic
• Must be comfortable performing repairs when required and checking the mechanics work for quality assurance
• Experience managing a shop with Company owned fleet would be an asset
• Extensive Health and Safety guidelines and regulations an asset
